read my review below!

The hours leading up to this concert were spent exactly as they should be when you're attending a Faye Webster show; in a garden. Specifically, the Boston Public Garden, which has seemed to become a place I spend time in everytime I’m in Boston now. Hanna, who I’ve mentioned previously, attended this show with me as well, so we spent a few hours in the park, before heading to our AirBNB to get ready for the show.

Hanna is the true Faye Webster fan, as she was the one who brought up this concert to me, which was certainly a change of pace, but a good one! I started listening to Faye more in the days before the show and she quickly grew on me. While Faye tends to have songs with a folk, indie sound, her opener was basically the exact opposite, with an alternative, rock, almost screamo sound. It was an interesting combination, but, somehow, it absolutely worked.

The venue we attended was outdoors, not much unlike the venue we attended for Phoebe Bridgers show at Thompson's Point in Maine, and it was a beautiful day to have an outdoor concert. Once the sun went behind the stage and was no longer beating down on us, it brought a cool, ocean breeze along with it. Even in the midst of the pit, it wasn’t an unbearable waiting experience, unlike when waiting in an indoor venue pit.

As I said, Julie was almost the polar opposite compared to Faye, but they brought a great energy to the crowd. It consisted of a lot of headbanging that my neck would not thank me for later, but I didn’t pay any mind to that during the course of their set. It’s always interesting to me the process that artists go through to select who will be opening for their tour, and, I have to say, I fully believe Faye could not have chosen a better opener.

Faye Webster’s introduction consisted of Minions (yes, The minions) singing (in their language) ‘But Not Kiss’, which was, again, not the kind of intro I expected to see from Faye, but it just… fit. She has such a range, going from something as silly as that to playing ‘Johnny (Reprise)’ where she evoked tears from me as she progressed into the poem at the end of the song. There is something so specific and emotional to her voice that draws me in, and safe to say that transgressed to her live voice as well.

I have to mention her band as well. What an immensely talented group! It was beautiful how she brought them together and also gave them their own moments to shine, even stepping back from the front to make sure the focus remained on them in their moment. Faye put on a beautiful performance from start to finish, and I truly hope I am lucky enough to see her again in the future.
